Male Enhancer Side Effects and X-Hero Adverse Health Reactions

Male Enhancer Side Effects and X-Hero Adverse Health Reactions. Worldwide demand for sexual enhancers seems to be as firm, strong and steady as the reported results of the products themselves.

But eager men should try not to be too gullible as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned several times that many products promoted for sexual enhancement have hidden drugs and chemicals that make them unsafe.

Early last year, the FDA warned consumers not to buy or use X-Hero and Male Enhancer, two popular sexual enhancement products, because they contain substances, used to treat erectile dysfunction, that may cause permanent blindness or damage hearing.

These substances may also interact with some prescription drugs to lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

FDA laboratory analysis found out that X-Hero contains sulfosildenafil, a derivative of sildenafil, the active ingredient of Viagra and Revatio, the approved drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

Male Enhancer was found to contains tadalafil, the active ingredient of an FDA-approved drug also used to treat ED.

This makes both products unapproved drugs that pose a threat to consumers who may be unaware that either of the two products are drugs that may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs commonly taken by men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease.

Sexual dysfunction is common in men with these conditions and, seeking products to enhance sexual performance, they may turn to X-Hero and Male Enhancer as these are promoted as “All-Natural, Science-based, Proven Non Toxic, Safe Dietary Supplements”

The FDA advises men who are using X-Hero or Male Enhancer to stop doing so immediately and to visit their doctors.

Male Enhancer Side Effects. Men using Male Enhancer should stop using the product right away and to call their doctors immediately if they experience any of these symptoms: sudden loss of vision, blurred vision, changes in color vision like seeing a blue tinge on objects or having difficulty telling the difference between blue and green, sudden decrease or loss of hearing, ringing in ears, an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, dizziness, chest pain, hives, rash and blistering or peeling of skin.

USA Far Ocean Group Inc, the maker of the two sexual enhancement products, conducted a voluntary nationwide recall of the two supplements in May 2011. No illnesses have been reported so far.

The specific products recalled include: X-Hero with English Label, 10 capsules, UPC code 689087070995; X-Hero with English Label, 8 capsules, 689076499255; X-Hero with Chinese/English Label, 8 capsules, 689076499255; X-Hero with English Label, 1 capsule pack, no UPC code; Male Enhancer, 60 capsule, 982010061205.

Blindness, hearing loss
Tadafil, the drug found in Male Enhancer, is used to manage—but not cure—sexual dysfunction. It is also used to manage pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

It can cause a sudden loss of some or all of their vision that has, in some cases, been reported to have become permanent. It can also cause a decrease or complete loss of hearing in one ear that may not get better.

Men who experience loss of vision or hearing should stop taking tadalafil or similar medications such as sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio) and vardenafil (Levitra).

Found under a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors, tadalafil treats erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection.

Tadalafil is also available under the brand names Adcirca and Cialis and men should only be treated with one of these products at a time.

Other mild side effects of taking tadalafil are headache, indigestion or heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, flushing, pain in the stomach, back, muscles, arms, or legs, cough.

There are only three clinically tested and safe erectile dysfunction medications available for men and they are Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.

Last year, a class action lawsuit was filed against the manufacturer of sexual enhancement product ExtenZe, Biotab Nutraceuticals Inc and its distributors for claiming falsely in their advertising, promotion, marketing and labeling that ExtenZe can be used to increase the size of a man’s penis. A settlement has since been reached.

Healthcare professionals and patients are encouraged to report any X-Hero adverse events or any Male Enhancer side effects to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program at 1-800-332-1088.
